Approachable Jesus

By this time a lot of men and women of doubtful reputation were hanging around Jesus, listening intently. (Luke 15:1, the Msg)
NOW THE tax collectors and [notorious and [a]especially wicked] sinners were all coming near to [Jesus] to listen to Him. (Luke 15:1, Amplified)

The verse above fascinates me and I have been thinking about it for a while. “A lot of men and women of doubtful reputation were hanging around Jesus”. Isn’t this text interesting? It clearly explains how approachable Jesus was. Sinners were coming nigh to him, to hear him. He was normal, friendly, caring and non-condemning. His approachableness astounds me. Some of his names tell us how approachable he was.

He is called Friend, Brother, and Father. No one is afraid of these people. A friend is always approachable. No planning is required to meet a brother. A father always cares and is always approachable.
That’s how you can come to Jesus. Just as you come to your friend, brother and Father.

But the sad thing in church today is that we have only got teachers, pastors and preachers rather than friend, brother and father. Though I respect those titles, I value relationships. Give people a relationship and then they will hear us. Let us be more approachable to the unsaved one around us. What do you say?

  1. I agree! We have complicated the simple things. We've got to go back to the basics!
