Testimony!

Image
John the Baptist gave testimony about Christ. He was a witness. As he gave testimony about Christ, people starting following Jesus (John 1;35-39, 2:11). His testimony and teaching pointed towards Christ and many started following Jesus (John 2:11). John’s gospel itself was written as a testimony about Jesus. And in this gospel, John emphasis on the power of our Testimony (John:19:35, 20:31) Samaritan women is another example. Through her testimony many Samaritans believed in Jesus. (John 4:28-29,39) Jesus prayed that through the disciple’s testimony many would believe in Him. (John 17:20) John also writes about people who are afraid testify Jesus because of their “fear of Jews”. (John 7:13, 9:22, 12:42, 19:38, 20:19) John the Baptist boldly testified about Jesus when so many where afraid to. He is our example to testify about Jesus. And his testimony made many to follow Jesus. Finally, Jesus commands us to testify about him. (John 15:27) What are you t...

Revealing God to Us!

Image
The Word was with God. So the Word became human [ d ] and made his home among us. He has revealed God to us. (John 1:1b, 14, 18c (NLT)) Sometime back, some were writing a book about my father. So they called me and asked me details about my father. Since I was with my father longer than them, they thought I would be the best person to reveal or explain about my father.  What if we have a person who was with God from the beginning? And what if that person would come and live with us and reveal or explain God to us. Well, this is exactly what Jesus did. The Word (Jesus) was with God from the beginning. So Jesus would be the best person to reveal God to us. Jesus came into this world to reveal God to human beings. He became human and made his home among us. You may have so many questions about God. Read through the gospels and follow the character of Jesus. The way Jesus talked and acted would be the exact way God would talk and act. As we start this...

I Know it in My Heart!!

Image
As I visited my native place, which is a remote village, I met a village shepherd. So I stopped by him and began to talk with him. Our conversation was revolving primarily around his Job of shepherding his sheep. He had nearly 80 sheep. Half way through the talk, I asked him this, “How do know when a sheep has gone astray”. Since there were too many and he cannot constantly count his sheep, I was just wondering if he had some technique. He though for a moment and then he said, “Sir, I know it in my heart”. I thought he misunderstood my question and so I explained him the question again, but he repeated the same answer. He said there were no other techniques but somehow when his goes astray he knows it in his heart.  And then it hit me. He was explaining my relationship with the Great shepherd. Isaiah 40:11 says, He will feed his flock like a shepherd; He will carry the lambs in His arms, holding them close to his heart. God, the great shepherd has us ...

What Really Matters?

Image
I fear I am anxious of things that really don’t matter in my life. Time and again I am forgetful about the things that really matter.                                                  (Photo Source)    Paul in his letter to the Philippians prays for them like this.                                                                  “For I want you to understand what really matters ” – Philippians 1:10 (NLT) Mo...

Religious Zeal Destroys

Mathew 16; 21 From then on Jesus[j] began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed… Acts 8:3 3 But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison. I was reading these to passages from the bible. Jesus had to suffer at the hands of elders, leading priests, and teachers of the law. He suffered at the hands of these people who were religious. The second passage says, Saul was destroying the church. Saul was a religious man and he followed all the laws. In his Religious zeal, he was destroying the church. So Jesus and His Church suffered at the hands of religious people. Even today it is the same. People who are driven by religious zeal and head knowledge about the word of God persecute and destroy the chu...

Good Questions

Image
It was about noon time as Saul was traveling towards Damascus. It was also the same time when the Light of Life shone brightly as noon day to turn his dark days to light. His encounter with God blinded him and brought him to ground. At times as we encounter God in our lives we too are brought to this state. As he was in this state, he asked two good questions. He asked the right questions. (Acts 22) •Who are you, Lord? •What should I do, Lord? The first question led him to know Jesus personally as God answered him. As soon as he had this personal knowledge of Christ Jesus, the very first thing he asked is “What should I do, Lord?” From thereon if you see Paul’s life at each point in his life he gets his direction from the Lord. If you have not asked the first question, ask it now with all sincerity. God will reveal himself to you. The second question is very important if you say you are a disciple of Jesus. As you ask Him, may he reveal His plans for you? The answer for these t...

Focused and Fruitful

Image
I have not written for some time not because of lack of ideas but because of there were too many ideas. This is what I would do for the past one week. I would write a couple of sentence on a topic and then stop it and write another 2 lines on some other topic and then stop it and then ..(Well you know the cycle went on for some time.) Though there were so many ideas, I could not get anything meaningful because I was not focused. Life can be like that. Though you may do so many things, unless you focus on ONE important thing, it would be meaningless. Here are a few questions for us to ponder. What is One thing that we need according to Jesus? (Luke 10:38-42) What is One thing that we lack in? (Luke 18:22) What is One thing you desire? (Psalms 27: 4) May our lives be focused and fruitful.

Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus

Image
Here is a small paragraph from the book “Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus”. This is one of the best books that I read last year. It is written by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg. There are many such beautiful paragraphs in this book. It is a good read for learning about the Jewishness of our Jesus, which would enhance our understanding of Jesus and his words. Here is the Passage. “Imagine for a moment that you possess the sheet music of the most beautiful piano concerto ever written, but you never heard the whole piece perfectly performed. Then one day you meet the composer’s son, who himself is a great pianist. This man knows his father’s music by heart. As he sits down to play with the orchestra, the music is so achingly beautiful that you began to weep. At last you have heard the most magnificent concerto in the world being played exactly as the composer intended. This is a rough analogy of what Jesus has done for us, not merely telling us but showing us what human beings, cre...

Likes

Image
Now a days I have started to realize how much of what I say or think is driven by what others “like”. But I have also realized that the results are not so good. It not only takes my life off track but also becomes a hindrance for other too. This also can be related easily using a face book “likes”. I would like to know your thoughts about the following couple of questions. 1. When someone “likes” what you write in your FB how do you feel? 2. In life, whose “Likes” is important to you? Is it the “likes” from people whom you live with or is it the “Likes” from God?

(In)Dependence!!

Recently my sons started sitting all by themselves. So we as parents became so proud of them. We called their grandparents (Our Parents) to tell them that the little boys don’t depend on us for sitting anymore. We were filled with joy and with pride. There will be more and more such moments in our lives when our sons will start doing things on their own. They will start to stand, walk, run, learn, eat, and do so many other things on their own, becoming less dependent on us. We call is growth. As children grow, parents expect them to more independent. Most of the parents are proud like us. But spiritually the process is reversed. Spiritual growth is measured on how much we depend on the Heavenly Father. As soon as we are born again, we learn to depend on God and as days goes by we learn more and more to depend on God. A person who had walked with the Lord for 40 years depends on God more than a person who has walked with the Lord for 4 years. We call this spiritual growth. Jesus was the...
